The Computer Geeks out for our Super Summer Supper Birthday Bash.

What you can see in the background...

Joan, my next door neighbor who takes care of all the animals in the neighborhood. She buys them small jars of baby food when they seem 'a bit off' and orders extra in the restaurant because she knows this one loves salmon and that one loves chicken.

Leslie and Gerhard at the Getty. We had an entirely enjoyable afternoon and especially took note of the many faces of the marble, from far away and middle distance and close up where whole worlds live inside.

As to the garden experience, I always tout the same thing - go early, before the museum part opens and enjoy the garden in peace. This day again lines of obedient tourists were snaking down the paths like little kids on a fire drill.

It's cool how so much of the garden is at eye level.

I'll probably end up deleting this picture as redundant to the one below. The buildings are more interestingly represented in this shot...

...but here we have, even more interestingly, men-at-leisure.

We did have some fun too. This woman is the godmother of Gerhard's 16 year old son (who is staying with Julie and Les for a few weeks and doing a summer job at the firm - the son that is, not the godmother).

Oh we did eat and drink and be merry - Matsuhisa, Figtree, Joe's - all too good. And all the walking only made the food all the more delicious. This was just a small interlude in my summer campaign to physical fitness. That's the plan anyway.

This is at Lares where I like to walk down from Roger and Sandy's place and we get a shot of tequilla and a great dinner and hear some tableside ole music to go with the meal. The center picture is Roger's. He doesn't own it and they won't sell it to him so he enjoys it there, at Lares. They did promise not to sell it to anyone else though...

I spent an hour and tens of pix trying to show the aviary that lives in my mother's back yard. You can't see them, but there are 50 birds perched in this tree.

...and a moment before the snap there were 50 more on the ground and at the feeders and in the bath. I have no idea how much Mom spends on bird food but my guess is Plenty.

Marsha traded in her red everything, having to change the entire decor of her mantel to make the appropriate space for this painting from her childhood. This is the picture she grew up with, her vision of her perfect mother and of the perfect woman she strives to be. Would that we could all be so genteel and modest and talented and beautiful.

Light and mirrors.

Nancy and Paulette waiting in line on the second to the last day of the Warhol exhibit. Paulette pressed the importance of going. Nancy got tickets with her membership and I got to tag along. That's good. It was a far better experience than my 'Andy Warhol, who cares?' expectations and a reminder - it just took a few hours and made an otherwise regular day an interesting and entertaining one. Omoshiroi.
From Nancy. Our cameras. Endlessly entertaining.

Gift Shop Photos. Andy would have appreciated this power of repetition.
After the Warhol exhibit we mosied on down to Olvera Street for the always satisfying Olvera Street Taquitos and a bit of south of the border shopping.
Angela xo
XO and Angela - look here look this way.
Darryl Angela self portrait
Mexican wrestlers, grrrrrr. Love those teeth.

Happy birthday Gideon! Four big years old!

Mom's back with Celina's brother from Salvador.

Girly girls.
Valley Girls
There's something in this PhotoShop trick that I just find irresistible. My expectation (and hope actually) is that I'll tire of it soon enough. One of the (also irresistible) dinosaurs on the Promenade.
UniUni. But you should'a seen the other guy...
Saint Marc
A magician, an artist, a mindreader, but really, a Saint. My very own Saint.

Saint Marc of Dentalia

Chuck doing his Gorbachev thing again.

All work and no play...
Santa Monica Life
Me and Jeanne, out on an early morning constitutional. Seems I'm dragging everyone down to the pier this year.
Roger Eaton Sandy Chaves
Natural light, sunset at Lares. I'll live with the bit of jiggle to keep the flash from flashing. Here's where I started doing Nancy's trick of Image-Adjust-Selective Color-add some yellow and a bit of black to the neutral range. Then I still did the Image-Adjust-Levels to brighten up the foreground. I didn't do any of the Sharpen filters but maybe that would have been interesting, and I could be playing with the Brush Style filters...

'Ladies Who Dine', a portrait from Nancy. Sandy, Nancy and Paulette at Union on 5th. And Life is Good!

Notice my head. My head is the head furthest from the camera and still My Head is the biggest head in the picture. This Always happens because I have one honkin' head.

Turns out that cloud was a smoke plume. This picture looks like a ticket waiting to happen.

What the fire did to the sunset.

It took two people about 1/4 the time of one person to put back together the desk from D&A to C. Now Cynthia's room has all its parts in a welcoming, practical and esthetic arrangement. The entry; the dining room; the kitchen; the lounge; the bedroom; the study; the bathroom. And the walls are beautiful and the ceiling is clean and the whole place is maybe 14x14.
Althea Bolt
Althea. Looking good.
I passed out my India anklets before leaving in case of, well, just in case... And I'm still waiting for pictures from:

Beth, Christa and Charis
Windy and Lainee
Cynthia's picture is missing

This is Mom.
Mom and Lona.

Betsy and Angela.

The old homestead as being refurbished (at great expense for the second time) by the New Owners.

They got the nasty neighbor to the east to sign the variance and put in a new garage. They are gutting the converted garage to add a bathroom, have gutted the kitchen and front bathroom and the whole fireplace area. The first set of fix-ups include... the first round of home improvements they redid all the perimeter fencing, added the pool fencing for the kids, added the water fall and spa in the pool area...

...they added the fire pit and seating. If you look towards Louise and Russell's place that whole side yard is now edge to edge with kid toys. They had also added French doors from the converted garage into the yard...

...and done up the kid's rooms like this. The book shelves they left.

Isn't this great! They had to move out because of all the work like no kitchen and no bathroom etc. but told Louise, who invited me over, to be sure and take me for a tour. He left Cynthia's model of the house, which we had left for him back then, on the porch so we would be sure to see it coming in!

Marija, Louise and Ljubica. We ate Everything.

Leslie, me and Sandy at Lily's. We reminisced about India even though we had been back for just a few weeks. It was so exotic and far away!
22nd Street
This is a program I copied from a friend 'Panorama Maker'. I'll have to do some experimentation. I wonder if it can get rid of that fisheye?
Santa Monica Life
At the corner of Santa Monica Bl and Ocean. With a little help from PhotoShop.
